Woodland Escape
1 / 17

Woodland Escape. Set in the hills of Picton, overlooking the Marina and down into the Marlborough Sounds; this 269sqm dwelling utilizes it's surroundings to make the most of the view whilst the existing oak trees provide wind protection and privacy.
This three-bedroom, 2 storey home with it's sleek low-profile roofline nestles into the established bush line, alongside it's own babbling brook thus providing perfect serenity. The first floor living rooms are light and airy, with view capturing windows and internal stacking doors that open to create seamless living between the indoor and outdoor areas. Also located on this level is the master bedroom, guest bedroom, office, kitchen, and bathrooms.
The Alaskan cedar eyebrows and vertical slotted screens provide a contrasting finish against the dark Duragroove cladding which ties in with the dark colour toning of the kitchen joinery. The large slimline skylight ensures natural light floods this luxurious kitchen.
Picton Hillside New Build
1 / 13

Picton Transformation. This project transformed an existing small bach into a spacious and comfortable family home, carefully designed to capture the stunning views of the Marlborough Sounds. The homeowners engaged an architect with a strong commitment to environmental and passive design principles, who had previously worked with members of the family to achieve excellent results.
Working closely with the homeowners and design team, Roger Hogg Builders delivered a high-quality renovation focused on durability, functionality, and year-round comfort. The project featured open-plan living spaces, extensive glazing to maximise natural light and views, and carefully selected materials chosen for long-term performance.
The renovation included additional floor area to expand the living spaces, an enlarged kitchen and dining area, a new master bedroom with ensuite, and significant improvements to outdoor living, including an enlarged deck and the addition of another outdoor area.
The finished result is a beautifully crafted family home that combines practical functionality with timeless design and reflects the care and attention to detail shown throughout the build.

A Frame Renovation & Addition (Beach Road residence). Having worked with these homeowners on a previous project, we were invited to help them select and transform a home suitable for renovation. Early involvement included advising on ways to increase floor area, improve practicality, and add character while respecting the original style of the property.
Following initial concept sketches and practical floor plan ideas, the home was purchased and plans developed. The use of multiple cladding materials complemented the abundance of angles and roof pitches, helping retain the unique character of the original 1970s A-frame while giving it a fresh new life.
The once modest bach was transformed into a warm, insulated, double-glazed home full of personality both inside and out. Two-storey dormers were introduced to enhance proportions, improve flow between split levels, and create a greater sense of space. A generous living area was added, opening onto spacious decking and an outdoor entertaining area, while polished concrete floors bring a contemporary edge to this coastal retreat.
Today, this distinctive home operates as a popular holiday stay, enjoyed by families visiting the nearby marina and surrounding area.

Trusted by Homeowners — What Our Clients Say
"We Would Totally Recommend Roger Hogg as a Builder"
When we moved back to New Zealand from Australia and bought a hillside section overlooking Picton, we were concerned about getting the right builder for the job. A friend in Waikawa recommended Roger, and he came and looked over the section. He was enthusiastic and certainly gave us some great ideas.
Roger helped us with every aspect of the build and made the building process an enjoyable experience. Along with his apprentice, Will, they were on the job every day, and Roger followed through with every aspect of the build.
The process was very enjoyable, and Roger explained every stage clearly. He was always more than happy to discuss progress with us on a weekly basis.
We have ended up with an exceptional home and enjoy living here every day — we would not change a thing.
Even eight years after the build was completed, we still have regular contact with Roger, and he is always more than happy to answer any questions we may have.
We would thoroughly recommend Roger Hogg Builders to anyone looking to undertake building work in the Marlborough area.

"I can definitely recommend Roger Hogg as a very competent and confident builder."
Roger built my house at Lower Wairau 22 years ago. He was our choice as he was personally working onsite for the duration of the build. His subcontractors were always there when booked and the house was completed in the one-year timeframe.
I really love my house which looks as good now as when it was built. It also came through the 2016 earthquake without damage!!
Roger went on to build at least three more houses after owners following progress on mine (a recommendation in itself).
I have complete confidence in recommending Roger Hogg as a builder.

"We Are Very Happy to Recommend Roger Hogg for Any Building Project"
In 2024, we asked Roger Hogg to undertake an extensive renovation of our home in Picton. At the time, we were living in Hokitika and were unable to be on site to monitor day-to-day progress. Between our occasional visits, Roger kept us updated with regular photos, which gave us confidence and reassurance throughout the project.
We quickly realised we were in very capable hands. When a medical issue arose that prevented us from being involved for around three months, we had complete confidence in Roger and his team. They managed the challenges that naturally arise during the renovation of an existing home and offered helpful suggestions whenever decisions needed to be made.
We also appreciated Roger organising and coordinating the subcontractors on our behalf, which made the process far less stressful.
In April 2025, we moved into our completed home and are extremely happy with the result. The consistently high standard of workmanship, clear communication, and professionalism shown by Roger and his team ensured the finished home completely lived up to our expectations.
We are very happy to recommend Roger Hogg for any building project.
